Great for Pre-Algebra & College Algebra July 2, 2010 P. Vang (St. Paul, MN USA) So, I forgot my Casio calculator at home, and waiting for me at school was the mid-term. I drove right to a brick and mortar store and ran in to find that they have many calculators to chose from, just calling me, wanting to come home with me. I could've picked up the same Casio I had at home, but I didn't. I thought I try a new calculator so I picked up this Sharp EL-W516. Boy, it's been good to me so far. I've used it for two classes already and I don't feel a need to buy a fancy graphing calculator just yet. Yes, it doesn't do graphing, but that's fine. At this price, it's a steal; especially for a poor college student.

The ability to enter the problem just as it appears is great for learning. Anyone who needs a scientific calculator should definitely give this one a look.
Good, but not for programmers... April 1, 2010 Kam Bansal (Santa Cruz, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well, my main focus for this calculator was for programming support (hex, octal, binary, and, not, xor, etc...)...
It does all this! So that is great! woo hoo!
~BUT~
The reason I'm returning it is that it only supports 10 bits! 10!!!!! What ding dong main this choice?! Programmers need 8/16/32 bits, not 10!!! And what's more frustrating is that it is limited to the display, not the actual math, so if I enter "-1" in decimal, and do a convert to hex, I get "FFFFFFFFF" which is correct, Oct I get "777777777", binary "111111111"...the size is limited to the max displayed characters! This is useless to me. There is room for 16 bits (I'll forgo the 32 bits), but come on!
So, if you need this for programming stuff, and never use more then 8 bits BINARY, go for it, else find something better.
