Works well for small cash July 21, 2010 City Of Rocks 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Okay. So, my husband had scratches on his extended version Lord of the Rings DVDs. These are pricey to replace, so we decided to try this fancy little gadget as an alternative to replacing the disks. The SkipDr is not only a cleaner; it's a buffer to repair scratched disks. The process is just a couple of steps, but make sure you follow the instructions and do the buffing properly if you want a good outcome. Our experience with this item: we had no problems. The previously unusable DVDs are working just fine now.
Some lines were appeared on the DVDs through the process, but the DVDs work just fine and we saved the cost of replacing a pricey DVD collection.
Overall very pleased.
I don't see how you can give this thing anything less that 5 stars July 15, 2010 Alexander Reeser (Elkton, Maryland United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I owned the old Disc doctor (green wheel) that came out i don't even know how many years ago and used that thing up until now. it basically would not work anymore since i'm pretty sure between me and my mom over the years we used it on waaay more than the 50 recommended discs-probably 200+ discs. anyway, this will be a comparison review between the old one and new updated one.
what prompted me to purchase a new device was that i was playing guitar hero 5 at my cousins and i accidentaly knocked the xbox over while playing. if any of you own an xbox you know that this is the last thing you want to do! not only does your xbox slam into the floor, but you get a HUGE circular gash all the way around the disc from the spinning motion scraping on something inside the xbox. :( this made the game unplayable. so i looked online for a new replacement wheel. the replacement wheel kit is something like 12 bucks and it made sense to just buy a brand new one for 16 bucks. what i ended up getting in the mail is essentially the same as my old one but with a few suprising updates. for starters, you don't need to flip the switch to rotate the disc in reverse like you did with the old one and gone is the snappy part that the disc sits into which was annoying to attach every time. now it rotates in only one direction and you simply slide the arm out, put the disc in the device and start turning. when your done you just fold the arm back into the device and your done. very ingenious. also no more plastic baggies to hold the towels, buffer pad and fluid since the device can hold all of those things in the handle.
now actually using the device on my guitar hero game: needless to say, i needed 5-6 full cycles to repair the game not the 2 they recommend for normal scratch repairing. it didn't look like it had done anything but sure enough the game works brand new again! it paid for itself in one repair.
In conclusion, there is no way you can go wrong dropping 16 for a device like this when nothing else besides buying a new disc will do. don't throw that game out, repair it. i actually got a free copy of halo 3 this way when my buddy's copy stopped working. i just gave it a spin in the disc dr and good as new!
brillo July 14, 2010 mr jones 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I put a brillo pad to a ps2 disc made it worse than it was then used the skip dr and it works great now
It works. June 28, 2010 Cris Fair (Clearwater, FL USA) I bought this to fix my 7 year old's DVD collection. She had a lot of DVD's that were scratched. This little machine works well so far. A couple of spins fixes most DVD's and the ones that are really scratched have to be put through another couple of spins before they work again.
TIP: The "cleaning solution" that comes with this machine is just distilled water with a little bit of rubbing alcohol ;) So you don't need to order any more bottles online. Just mix like 95 parts water to 5 parts rubbing alcohol.
Works within limits June 24, 2010 The Pop Monster Good enough to buff out scratches on a DVD; some elbow grease with the crank and the polishing pad, and an unplayable DVD became playable (but it won't look like new, of course). Worthwhile buying if you have, or expect to have, about a half-dozen disks to repair.
As with ALL of the DVD fixers, if when you hold the DVD or CD up to light you can see the light through the scratch, the disk is dead.
