5 out of 5 stars SUPER VALUE!   March 14, 2010

Back in the 80s, I worked at an audio-video store and had a stereo worth about $2000. Eventually, the various components "died", the last one only recently. So I had to buy something to get my main listening area going again. I had heard the SONY MHC-EC79i at a Best Buy while Christmas shopping, so I bought one and gave up on components. Man! Am I ever happy that I did!

I spend much of my spare time listening to music, so even though I have only had this a few days, I have listened to several hours worth of music on it. The sound quality is excellent. Between the different EQ settings and SONY's DSGX, I found a very plesing sound quite quickly. I have played acoustic jazz, electric jazz, rock, prog rock, and praise and worship on this stereo, and all of them sound like they are supposed to sound. This unit also supplies my computer sound, which was very easy to connect. I have not enjoyed listening to music this much for a long time. The speaker wires were just barely long enough for where I put it. If you are looking for a great deal on a stereo, look no further.

A Sony system at a steal of a price, what more could you ask for!

1 out of 5 stars piece of junk   February 23, 2010

Bought this on sale at Canadian Tire for my mom. Sound quality was very poor, but my mom doesn't really care about sound quality that much, and I thought it would do until I'm not a student and can afford to buy her a decent system. After 6 months the CD player started acting up. It makes a terrible high pitched noise, like the sound of a UFO in really old film or something. I've also had a Sony 5-disk changer that broke on me a few years ago. So I'm not a Sony fan anymore.

4 out of 5 stars very happy with purchase   February 20, 2010

purchased as a christmas gift for my 14 yo. He loves it. Great sound and good features like the ipod dock. Good value. Only drawback is it doesn't have connections for surround sound.
