Brimming with high-tech features, Toshiba's massive, 56-inch 56H80 widescreen projection TV is ready to rock your world, handling inputs from components as diverse as DVD players, digital TV set-top boxes, digital satellite systems, cable television boxes, camcorders--you name it. A 3D Y/C (4 MB, 10-bit) digital comb filter with Vertical Contour Correction provides more accurate processing of RF and composite-video signals for a sharper, cleaner picture. This advanced comb filter significantly reduces detail noise, seen as shimmering or flicker, in complex or intricately detailed scenes.
The set uses Toshiba's digital chassis design with proprietary I.D.S.C. (Intelligent Digital Scan Conversion) technology. I.D.S.C. automatically converts DTV signals routed through a ColorStream HD input for maximum display quality with no user configuration or set-up required. I.D.S.C. (in conjunction with the 3D Y/C digital comb filter) automatically converts 480i signals into 480p signals by using a combination of vertical line doubling, frame doubling, and horizontal pixel doubling to achieve the highest possible resolution without motion artifacts.
A PowerFocus HD lens system uses wider diameter lenses than conventional projection-TV lens systems, part of a unique 6-element configuration. PowerFocus HD lens systems are 65 percent sharper than standard lens systems, giving you greater clarity, brightness, and color accuracy. Similarly, high-performance PowerFocus HD Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs) incorporate larger electrostatic lenses and higher beam current for reduced beam spot size and more accurate beam shape. The result is a 10 percent increase in brightness and a 25 percent increase in sharpness over conventional tubes.
Built-in TheaterShield Plus protection builds on Toshiba's hard-coat TheaterShield technology by adding an anti-reflective layer for increased contrast and reduced glare, with no reduction in brightness.
Two sets of ColorStream HD component-video inputs provide the optimum way to connect a digital playback source to a display device. ColorStream HD inputs let you enjoy true 480p resolution from DVD-Video discs (using a progressive scan DVD player) or 1080i from an HDTV set-top box.
For audio, the 56H80 offers SRS TruSurround, which creates a wide, 3-dimensional sound field from the television's 2 internal speakers. The set pumps 14 watts per channel (28 watts total power), employing StableSound to maintain television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. Toshiba's Sub Bass System (SBS) boosts your programs' low end audio for heightened dramatic impact.
